About Applied Science & Humanities (ASH) Department

“There is no such thing as a special category of science called Applied Science, there is Science and its applications, which are related to one another as the fruit is related to the tree that has borne it.”

Truly believing in the aforementioned quote of Louis Pasteur, the Department of Applied Science and Humanities (ASH) is devoted to foster the fundamental principles and understanding of Science that are capable of enhancing the human experience.

ASH Department plays a vital role in catering the teaching of basic Sciences and Humanities Courses for engineering students of all the branches. The department endeavours to lay a strong foundation of various disciplines such as; Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Communication Skills or English, Management and Physical Education in the mind of aspirant engineers, so that they can advance to rest of their years of study with Cutting-Edge Knowledge.

Consisted of 12 permanent and 5 Adhoc faculties, the department boasts of four well-equipped laboratories proficient to render the practical aspects of the courses. Dedicated faculties of the department strives to inculcate the basic engineering, communicative and managerial skills, which are indispensable part of any professional office.

The department organizes seminars, guest lectures, workshops, short term trainings and aptitude testson regular basis.

VISION

To inspire the students for conceptual Knowledge of core subjects and enhance their mental, physical and independent problem solving skill to become best in their professional field.

Aims to lead the aspiring engineers in the field of innovation and ideation by strengthening interpersonal, analytical and core engineering skills through interdisciplinary career-focused practical education with effective use of modern teaching methodologies.

MISSION

  • To apply sound knowledge of fundamental physics to create concrete base of engineering.
  • To develop computational and problem solving skills by analytical techniques of mathematics.
  • To enhance awareness of environmental conservation and efficient use of natural resources by environmental studies and to serve society at large.
  • To develop relation between material science and engineering with the use of fundamental chemistry.
  • To build up students’ communication, interpersonal, managerial and life skills for their bright personal and professional life.
  • To raise self-discipline, spontaneous sills and team spirit by various sports activities.

About Chemistry Section

Chemistry is the study of matter and energy and the interactions between them. Everything we hear, see, smell, taste, and touch involves chemistry and chemicals (matter). With such an enormous range of matter, it is essential to know about chemistry at one level or the other, in order to understand the world around us.

Apprehending such broad spectrum, the Chemistry Section at SCET intends to provide extensive knowledge about the fundamentals of chemistry, which can enable the students to testify the principles in their personal and professional ambience. The section also aims to familiarise the students with inter-disciplinary facets of chemistry which are inevitable for the proliferation of science and technology.

Run by well-read faculties having experience of more than 23 years, the section encompasses two well-furnished labs of namely Organic/Inorganic Chemistry Lab and Physical Chemistry Lab, which contain more than 35 cutting edge instruments.

Subjects being taught by Chemistry Section:

(1) Environment Science (Subject Code: 3110007)

(2) Chemistry (Subject Code: 3110001)

(3) Applied Chemistry (Subject Code: 3130506)

About Humanities Section

Effective linguistic and communication skills are no longer perceived as soft skills. Increasingly, they are becoming an inseparable part of the core professional skills every technical and professional student should have. Surveys have proved that in any technical job or interview, only 20 percent importance is given to the relevant technical knowledge, while 80 percent emphasis is laid upon the communicative competence. Here, the Humanities Section provides the opportunity to enhance students’ linguistic proficiency and communication competency, and also allows them to develop scientific temperament, foster analytical thinking, and nourish creative faculty.

Led by enthusiastic and diligent faculties, Humanities Section imparts a high quality education to the students of BE and MCA. The curriculum facilitates the students with thorough understanding of all the four Communication skills viz. Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing, in addition to familiarising the students with the fundamental components of English Grammar. The Section has a distinctive and well-equipped Language Lab, which allows the students to practically implement the theories and techniques they have learnt during the lecture hours. With innovative teaching methods, accurate computational assistance, and specially designed English Lab Manual & Software, students do not only improve their conversational and elocutionary aptitude, but also cultivate teamwork spirit and leadership skills.

Subjects being taught by Humanities Section:

(1) ENGLISH: LANGUAGE AND COMMUNICATION (3110002)

(2) EFFECTIVE TECHNICAL COMMUNICATION (3130004)

(3) COMMUNICATION SKILLS (3610005)

(4) CONTRIBUTOR’S PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT (1990001)

About Management Section

Due to the overabundance of engineering graduates and the consequent cut-throat competition across the globe, priorities are given to those candidates, who not only possess cutting-edge technical knowledge and outstanding communication skills, but also have exceptional management skills. Engineering managers are preferred among the other engineers because they can direct the designs and operations of industrial plants and can coordinate the human resource of the company as well.

To meet the demand of time, Management Section of ASH facilitates the students in acquiring business and managerial aptitude, which can make them to stand apart from the crowd. Administered by Dr. Mahesh H. Trivedi, MBA, Ph.D., Management Section offers to the students of  BE-2  year a variety of subjects pertaining to Management and Economics as per the requirement of  their respective branch. The chief aim is to educate students about the five basic functions of Management i.e. planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling .Along with that, the department makes the students acquainted about the fundamentals of Macro & Micro-Economics, nature and characteristics of Market, essentials of cash-flow, dynamics of organizational behavior and so on. Furthermore, the department emphasizes on the significance of human values and professional ethics in the contemporary cooperate environment.

Subjects being taught by Management Section:

  1. Principles of Economics and Management (3140709)
  2. Economics for Engineers (3140911)
  3. Professional Ethics (3141007)
  4. Organizational Behavior (3141909)
  5. Effective Technical Communication(3130004)
